Taking Stock [39/52]

At the beginning of the year I set out to write once a week about the film and TV. Sometime in September, I feel behind and got self conscious about catching up, starting and abandoned posts about, The Sandman, The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind, Stop Making Sense, All the Money in the World, Godzilla Minus One, xXx and my friends poetry show Refill The Nor Loch. I kept getting about 400 words in and ending up in an extended rant about UK politics, the state of healthcare in this country and generally making myself real angry. So I’d abandon the piece, rest up and then just repeat the cycle a week later. This was not sustainable, nor was it achieving much. Thus we got as far as 39, not a full 52. Respectable, but short of the goal.

That said, for the most part, I have had a great time writing and feel like I’ve really gotten good at it. Because of this blog, I have gained a lot of confidence and ended up several thousand words into a video essay I’m hoping to put up early next year. I’m feeling good about writing and better about posting it. I think as an experiment, /52 has been a success.

I will circle back to the my unfinished rants about bad movies, better movies, good poetry and NHS underfunding. I’d really like to get that stuff out there, I think it would help. I’m unlikely to go back to a weekly posting cycle anytime soon, I want to give some focus to longer form writing projects and also avoid burnout.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and good luck with the new year to all of you! thanks for the lovely messages and the general support, I’ve really enjoyed writing so much and I’m looking forward to publishing a lot more next year.
